Midd: Week 4

We work hard here at Middlebury. We work very very hard.

I will start out by saying that, unfortunately, I took zero pictures this week/weekend.
That is just a small insight at how busy and stressful everything has gotten, and so quickly.
The week went by so slowly, it's getting harder to get up on time, and our first 6-page research paper was due Tuesday evening where we were promptly informed that she was going to annihilate the paper when correcting because it is our very first paper and we need to learn from it, no worries it is 15% of our grade. No problem.  Plus it seems like the work load has tripled.  Every night kids are running to and fro trying to figure out what exactly is going on, working on late night math, spanish, chemistry, everyone is trying to help everyone just simply get by. It is highly unusual on B1N to be able to go to sleep before midnight and even then that is almost getting to sleep early. Followed by 8 am classes by the majority of the hall. No problem.

I finally was cleared to go back to soccer and have joined orchestra as well to add to an already time-consuming schedule. Let's just say that Tuesdays and Thursdays suck.... a lot.

We had a couple recruits in the dorm this weekend, Peter had a track recruit, Will had a squash recruit, and Morgan was supposed to have a track recruit as well but there was a mix up and apparently she was supposed to be with Morgan's twin sister, Missy, instead. No problems there. Recruits are interesting though. For sure. Also, Jared's girlfriend visited. I forgot to mention, on the social spectrum, last weekend Chris's ex-girlfriend came and stayed the weekend and Scarlett had a recruit as well.

The weekend was long, a lot was done, none of it really documented, there was a black-light rave and perhaps a late-night luau as well as some other "exciting" elements.

On Friday night, some genius thought it would be a great idea to set off the fire extinguisher up in B2C (Second Floor, Battell Center) leading to the evacuation of the entire building at 2 am for approximately 45 minutes. Thank goodness it was such a beautiful night. But a long one. A very very long night.

Saturday was sports day again!
Middlebury Soccer, both Women's Varsity and Men's beat Bowdoin.  The women won 2-1 in OT (Scarlett made the assist!) and the men won 2-0.  We also made it down to the football game until half time when we promptly returned to the dorm to nap, but the men beat Wesleyan 24-21. I don't know too much about football but it was exciting to know that both Jared and InvisaWill were playing out there!  Jared did really well! (Not sure about InvisaWill, I will ask if I ever get the chance!)

Another picture of a MiddKid, Dave and I, and the majority of B1N, did homework from 6 until 9:30 on Saturday night.
Nuff said.

Either way, even though the weeks are long, the work is hard, and the weather is questionable, I love it here at Middlebury and wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Miss you all.

Midd: Week 3

I really should be working on my paper for Visual Culture and Science right now BUT I felt the urge to put all of the weeks events into the blog!  Not that very much happened haha.
The week involved late night reading nearly every night, and almost always some in the morning and midday.  It seems like people here either really overwork their homework or else don't do their homework or else do the appropriate amount.  But really, it's all across the boards.  I think the ratio of procrastinators to perfectionists to people with good work ethic is 2:5:3 but, seeing as my test sample is only my hall (20ish kids) the pool is not perfect but, it's fascinating. ANYWHO! Moving on.
The week days were long, looking back at them it seemed like they lasted forever but, as another week begins it actually wasn't forever.  Thank goodness. Lots of reading though. And a little writing on the side. Except this new writing assignment that I am procrastinating on. But I have time to finish it so nobody worry!
This weekend there was a rave at Pearson's on Friday night...
(Alas I wasn't in attendance but ended up hanging out with the hall because everything thought it was lame anywho)

Saturday:
Saturday was sports day! There was field hockey, rugby, varsity mens and womens soccer, cross country, and something else...I don't know what else!

Our Scarlett, from B1N (she lives a couple doors down) plays forward for Midd and she was crazy amazing on Saturdays game and was the only person to really have any shots on goal (and she's a freshman!)

While waiting on Cross Country I watched some B-Team Rugby...

Followed by Leif!

And we cheered them all on!

Sunday
Sunday was Quidditch day!
Not only did I get to mess around with microfilm, nap instead of do homework, and sing, we got to experience quidditch!  AND Cook Commons (my commons) is Gryffindor and our Commons Leader is Professor McGonagall. No joke. See for yourself :)

And I almost forgot the morning prank...

Nick and Will were SO lucky:)

That's all for now, love you all!

Midd: Mid-Week 2

Although I feel like I have copious amounts of homework, I have been avoiding it. Successfully. Family! Do not worry! Do not stress! I am doing my homework as well! I just have been finding creative outlets!

Sunday, September 12, resulted in the reading of 80 pages of "Sambia" and 80 pages of Homer's "Iliad" therefore I felt pretty successful. But, before the success could start...

I MADE TORTILLAS!

Monday, September 13, after morning classes we spent the afternoon doing nothing resembling homework, or any work whatsoever.  It was, wonderful.  After the afternoon class (discussion) I came back and began to do homework only to join Dave for singing and listening to his guitar playing.
Following dinner, Dave wrote some absolutely amazing music, it moved me to tears.  The Power of Music.
Before this, I was inspired and took some photos of him... Hope you enjoy

Midd: Week 2

 Week 2!

So, school started Labor Day Monday and KICKED OUR ASSES. Monday night I was super stoked I had no homework. Alas, tuesday came, and wednesday night I was up until 2:30-ish.  The reading is...incredible. I have 10 books for Socio-Cultural Anthro, the Iliad, the Aeneid, the Odessy, and another for Epic Poetry, plus tons of articles from Visual Culture and Science.  The week went by quickly (now that I look back on it) and Friday night was the night of the 80's dance.  Here are some pictures to keep you occupied! :)  That's about it for the first week though!  I love it here! :)

Middlebury: Week 1

Ok, so I have officially decided to truly embark on a blogging mission.
I will try and blog every weekend and keep my blog going so everyone can see what I have been up to here!

To begin! I am currently attending Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont, a part of the class of 2014.  Yes, Middlebury is roughly 2502 miles away from home (by car) and 1 day and 19 minutes (thank you Google Maps) but already it is feeling like home.  Even the hills are beginning to look like mountains! :)

First Week of School:

As I was invited to Pre-Season for Women's Varsity Soccer I moved into my new home, Battell North, on August 30.  The parents and I left for Burlington two days prior and made sure I was prepared for my new life!  I carried 3 50lb suitcases and man, I don't know how I will EVER be able to bring all of this home haha. I am thinking a U-haul at the end of senior year? Just SO MUCH STUFF. Ironically I am practically the furthest away on my hall (other than Tuwanda from Zimbabwe) yet the person with the most "stuff."

First Week Continued...

The week was a whirlwind. Honestly. Soccer try-outs/pre-season ran 3-a-days meaning that socializing was hard. But, I got lucky and was part of First Floor Battell North, also known as B1N and/or BoneN. The best frosh hall at Midd. :)  We have become like, a family.  Really!

Lucky for us, we love EVERYBODY. :)
First week was Freshman Orientation so when not participating in activities (did I tell you 75% of my floor does a sport and like 30% were recruited? And even double recruited?), we did lots of "bonding activities" that were actually quite enjoyable, eye opening, and fun (ie, who knew square dancing could be fun??). Alas, so much happened and I was so busy with 3-a-days I barely remember what happened other than the basics and Registration.

First Semester Schedule:
General Chem (0103)     MWF   10:10-11:00     Byers
Gen Chem Discussion             M            2:50-3:40     Byers/Jewett
Gen Chem Lab             W            1:30-4:15      Jewett
Topics in Socio-Cultural Anthro        MW          8:00-8:50          Oxfeld
Socio-Cultural Anthro        F         9:05-9:55     Oxfeld
Visual and Cultural Science     TR     9:30-10:45     Moorti
Greek and Roman Epic Poetry     TR     3:00-4:15     Ganiban

Sorry, my alignment is wack! But, let me tell you, the reading involved in the above? HOLY CRAP. That's all I can say. HOLY CRAP.

Alright, thanks for reading! I'll be trying to update every weekend!

love,
